Sumo Wrestlers & White Background: “Distributel”

July 15, 2009 1 comment

My good friend, Erl, from the Brotherhood Of Bears Yahoo Group has shared this “Distributel” commercial using sumo wrestlers to make a visual point.

There’s something about seeing two semi-nude large men superimposed on an overwhelmingly white background.  You can check out more screenshots in the bearmythology Flickr Photostream.

Thank Grizzly It’s Friday Weekly Wrap-Up

January 9, 2009 4 comments

Every Friday, I will provide a weekly wrap-up then post a screenshot from a movie and I would like for you guys and gals to guess who the actor is and what movie it is from…  Just post your answers in the comments section. The answers will be posted the following Friday.

thankgrizzlyitsfriday-2009-01-09Here’s a “twofur”…  Who are the two woofy bearish fellas
on the left and the right?

I was gone for a bit due to my being at CES.  Part of my plans were to take photos of the beefy trifecta of David Ortiz, Prince Fielder, and Joba Chamberlain at the Sharp booth.  Unfortunately, I missed out on all three photo opportunities!  Anyway here are some photos I am leeching from others who were lucky enough to have seen these 3 woofy baseball players…  Man, Sharp really knew how to pick their husky athletes to promote their LCDs…

Um…  Woof!

Man, I totally missed out on seeing a bearded Joba!

Blast beating drummer, Nicholas Barker, got shirtless for us while drumming with melodic death metal band, Dimmu Borgir.

A musclebear version of Wolverine was brought to life by the massive strongman Brad Dunn.

Your author reminisced about educational tv shows and waxed philosophical about the benefits of bearish/chubby teachers.

A handsome chubby bear pro-wrestler was reinvented as a dancing and fighting tattooed gorilla: Shawn Murphy as King Kong Fu.

More King Kong Fu madness and with a special focus on a particular body region.

Two Woofy Tuesday pits two balding, bearded, husky/chubby, and oftentimes shirtless or even semi-nude hard-rocking musicians: Damian Abraham Vs. Max Flövik.

BassBoom of Real Thick Yahoo Group uploaded a video montage of a massive Warden Brute.

As for the answers from last week’s TGIF:WWU…

The very genial looking chubby bear is John DiResta from Miss Congeniality (hellfried gets the win!).  Mr. Diresta is more husky than chubby nowadays.  This is him from his MySpace page

I’m pretty saddened, but damn, the tanktop, exposed furry arms, and thick biceps sure make up for it though.  Plus, we get a peek at that belly — or whatever’s left of it (lol).  Anyway, let’s look back at the once chubby John DiResta…

My jaws literally dropped when I saw a new blog called Bears In Games hosted by Koobert.  I scarfed through all of the 4 podcasts he currently has and they were all freaking fantastic.  If you’re a “gaymer,” whether a casual or hardcore one, you should definitely check out this wonderful podcast.  Koobert is an awesome host with a great sense of humor.  You literally feel like he’s talking right beside you.  And his taste in bears, from chubby bears to muscle bears, is just my cup of tea.  What are you guys waiting for?  Check it out already! This is definitely a monumental FIRST! for us gamers and bear lovers, and we need to support Koobert.

bearsingames-saintsrow-01His very first podcast was about Saints Row 2,
a game that I have once posted about here

In his pocasts, I have learned about the surprising Tom of Finland homosexual subtexts with Final Fight and have witnessed a homophobic douchebag disconnecting his XBOX Live connection after getting pummeled by Koobert’s underwear-wearing musclebear in Soul Calibur IV.  I literally jumped out of my chair as I witnessed the homophobe’s humiliating defeat.  Awesome job, Koobert!

“Wichita Lineman” & “The Telephone Lineman”

November 9, 2008 1 comment

Rockwell Painting

This post is more “Man Mythology” than “Bear Mythology” as this is about a painting and song about the life of a telephone lineman.  I’ve always found the above Norman Rockwell painting, The Telephone Lineman, as something hauntingly sad.  Whenever I drive through the open roads of America and stare at awe with the sheer number of telephone poles around me, I would keep thinking about such telephone linemen.  Of course, I wonder about the roads and highways as well, but I rarely see a group of individuals working on telephone poles.  There’s just this sense of isolation and loneliness when it comes to working on these lines…

The following is one of my favorite Glen Campbell song, “Wichita Lineman.”  The song, written by Jimmy Webb in 1968, is based on an inspiration of seeing a

“solitary lineman in rural northern Oklahoma.  The lyric describes the longing that a lonely telephone or electric power lineman feels for an absent lover who he imagines he can hear “singing in the wire” that he is working on. Such a sonic vibration is commonly induced by wind blowing across small conductors. There is uncertainty as to which “Wichita” is intended; Wichita, Kansas, Wichita County, Kansas (which is over 250 road miles away), Wichita Falls, Texas, and Wichita County, Texas have all been suggested as possibilities, and others believe that Webb had entitled the song “Ouachita Lineman,” but that Campbell later changed that title to its present form.”

Wichita Lineman

I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main roads
Searching in the sun for another overload
I hear you singing in the wire
And I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

I know I need a small vacation
But it don’t look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south won’t ever stand the strain
And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all-time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all-time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

This song, for some reason, reminds me of Sesame Street.  Specifically, this song by Joe Raposo: “Everybody Sleeps.”  Even more specifically is the construction daddy bear sleeping dangerously on top of a building.

Clint Culp: “The Onion Movie” (BATES 4000)

The Onion Movie has been in limbo for the past 5 years but it’s finally released on DVD.  It’s completely racist, offensive, and juvenile.  But, to my pleasant surprise, it was genuinely funny (unlike recent comedic masterpieces like “Meet The Spartans”).  The jokes are dated, but the gems in the film are timeless and just pure great satire.

One of my favorite segment was the “BATES 4000” which starred a very cute chubby bear, Clint Culp.

[EDIT: Well, the moment I posted the video, FOX had immediately got it blocked as they had an automated program finding keywords about their films.  Oh well. I’ll try Google Video and l’ll post it as a private video.]

[EDIT AGAIN: LOL.  Google Videos rejected it too even though I’ve changed the name file.  Does anybody know a good YouTube-like site out there?]

Johnny Chung Lee: Academic Bear Making A Difference (Wii Remote Hacks)

Wow.  Hot.  Handsome.  Genius.

Johnny Chung Lee is a creative inventor who had built even more useful applications for the Nintendo Wiimote controller.  And as the following video will show from TED: Ideas Worth Spreading, he has accomplished in providing the masses with cost-effective tools for wide distribution of research & learning presentations.  Nothing sexier than an honest-to-goodness intelligent bear who’s making a tremendous difference in the much-needed funding for the world of Education and Research.
