Amazing Goonish Set Of Gerard Benderoth Photos

Ah, Bullneck, how I envy thee, let me count the ways…  Well, Bullneck has finally achieved his dream and met up with the one and only Gerard Benderoth.  And the generous Bullneck has shared with us jaw-droppingly awesome hiqh-quality photos of this spectacular behemoth.  Seriously, this is an amazing gift.  He has truly captured the magnificent beauty of this strongman.

Thank Grizzly It’s Friday: Amateur Wrestling Bullpup

Amateur Wrestler Bullpup

“Thank Grizzly It’s Friday” is back. But this time, it’s just going to be a weekly post of random stuff, and sometimes sprinkled with my random ramblings. Come on, I know you love ’em! *groans* 😯

About the above photo. First of all, I’m not sure if that amateur wrestler is in college or not. If he’s a high school wrestler, well then, all I can say is that I did not know he was under 21, officer.

Anyway, the reason for my posting him is due to my usage of the word “bullpup.” After returning from my self-imposed exile from the gay bear universe a few years ago, I started to notice these newer “bear-related” terminologies: “bull,” “bullgoon,” “bullpup,” “goon,” “bullneck,” “brute,” “lugs,” and other similar-sounding terms (as well as sites/blogs and groups, such as “Real Thick”). Bullneck was definitely the one that popularized this even though he might say otherwise.

But then again, perhaps the popular Football Biggins website was the one that started this subculture.

“But, Will,” you might interject. “The bear community is already a subculture in itself.” I will then reply, “That’s correct. I’m referring to the “brutes/bulls” as a subculture within the “bear subculture.” The bear subculture is predominantly “owned” by the gay bears themselves, and to some extent their admirers who don’t quite fit the mold of your typical “bear” or “cub.” Either way, the overwhelming members are gay men.

However, I feel that the “brutes” and the “bulls” are descriptions that tend to welcome straight men and women alike into our bear community. The admiration from such “brutish” and “bullish” men tend to be on the less pornographic side. Now this is based on what I have seen from my online travels. Of course, such men who possess such builds are still being sexually commented on, but oftentimes, their photos and videos are on the tame side.

Then there is this overlap. There are chubby chasers, as well as daddy admirers. Those two specific types will always be in their unique “niche.” They are a subculture of their own for which the bear community have embraced. As the bear community did so, so did the “brutes and bulls” admirers: musclechubs and brutish daddies came to be. Well, became more prominent than ever, that is.

So do I have any point from all this? Nothing really. I just wanted to talk about the evolution of our loves for “big men.” I guess that’s the Greatest Common Denominator that all of us would agree on. Gay men to straight women, we are all attracted to “larger than typical-sized” men.

But then again, there are folks in the bear community who just like furry men, regardless of shape and weight. Unfortunately, at that point, I have failed that class and don’t have any viable discourse on the subject. ^_^

And I also haven’t even touched upon the bears’ S&M/bondage fetish and the bulls’ uniform fetish. Again, it’s interesting to see where the parallel lies: one is more sexually explicit while the other is not so much. Of course, that is just a generalization and not a complete fact.

What do you think of this? Am I wrong with my analysis or am I spending way too much time on something that doesn’t need to be explored? Or do you have a favorite term that you tend to describe our big bears, chubs, daddies, and brutes? If so, please share!

Goonday Moonday: Uh-Oh, Sounds Like Somebody’s Got A Case Of The Mondays

January 19, 2009 3 comments

[EDIT: Photos have been deleted as requested by the owner of the photos.  Just check out Joe Powell Photography’s SmugMug photo site for the photos.]

I tend to give myself a blog break on Sundays and Mondays.  But it looks like I’m gonna be forced to post something on Mondays, as I seemed to have gotten a case of the Moondays — or in this case, Goonday Moondays.  (Need a refresher on what a goon is?)  Also, I have been lax and inconsiderate in not adding the great Bullneck in my “Bear Blog” links.  So this new regular post is dedicated to the expert of all things “bullgoon”…

Also, if you guys have some clever pun that I can use on Sundays, feel free to drop me a line.  Though part of me is hoping to high heaven that you don’t encourage me.  I’d like to take some break from da bears from time to time…  ^_^

So what’s the best way to start Goonday Moonday?  How about with some unauthorized usage of Gerard Benderoth photographs “borrowed” from Joe Powell Photography’s SmugMug photo site (Strongman Competition page)?  I could just link you guys to Mr. Powell’s photo site, but I just have to have images in every blog post I make.  So enjoy and partake in my evil activity before Gerard Benderoth comes crashing down my door then arrests me for such illegal acts…  Hmm…  On second thought…

Gerard Benderoth: Mo Rocca Interviews An American Strongman

September 15, 2008 4 comments

Majored in art in college.  Loves painting.  Enjoys sewing and knitting.  Loves dance movies, especially Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.

When I wrote those things, would you even think that these are interests and passions of a strongman?

Vodpod videos no longer available.
Direct link to that interview can be found here

Bullgoon-loving internet superstar, Bullneck, has just updated me about a fantastic video interview piece of Gerard Benderoth by ex-Daily Show correspondent, Mo Rocca.  Bullneck has also posted about this in his LiveJournal (which reminded me that I have been very lax with updating and checking out my very own LiveJournal account).  And I just have to shout out a huge “Thank you!” to Bullneck for thinking about me.  He’s such a super and smart guy and any of you bullgoons out there will be lucky enough to snatch this smart and witty young man.  I wholly endorse him.  🙂

As for the video, it was wholly unexpected.  I was expecting a rough and gruff personality, but through such intimidating exterior, he’s completely a “teddy bear” on the inside.

*begins sudden out from left field rant*

And as a lesson to any of you homophobic “bearish guys” out there, take a lesson from Big Benderoth himself as he talked about “confidence.”  If you can’t handle any gay references or insinuations, then there’s something wrong with your level of confidence.

*ends sudden out from left field rant*

Anyway, I really love the video and I love how Benderoth is such a completely nice guy.  I’ve also been a fan of Mo Rocca and he definitely did a great piece with this one.

Steve Eastin: My Daddy Bullgoon Fantasy

April 20, 2008 7 comments

I’ve always been looking for that perfect time to post something “bullgoon”-ish.  It’s a term that Bullneck has patented and coined and a newly-found word that really brings a new dimension to my fantasies of bigger, bullish, and goonish uniformed bears.

LFBears from YouTube has posted another great video.  This time, it’s a scene from Without A Trace with the extremely woofy Steve Eastin:

And here’s the bullgoonish Mr. Steve Eastin wearing a very bullhot bullguard bullgear from the film Con-Air.  Lol.  Overkill…

Bullneckblog: Dispatches From The Goonited States

April 16, 2008 7 comments

I recently just exhausted myself from reading through Bullneck’s LiveJournal: Bullneckblog.  I was blown away by his hot drawings, entertaining writing, and always hot pictorials.  I have also been schooled with creative terminologies that I was not aware of.  Here’s a sample:

As one of Bullneck’s readers has suggested, this NEEDS to be a wallpaper.
And that is the HOT Gerard Benderoth.  And, yes, Bullneck has dibs on him.
-_^

“Bullgoon” is a sub-category in itself in the sub-culture world of bears and chubs.  It’s like a mixture of musclemen/bears/chubs, with a fantasy element to it, in regards to wearing uniforms, specifically those of in official and authoritarian designs.

I signed up for LiveJournal just so I could make Bullneck my LJ friend (so that I can subscribe to his awesome blog).  I have nothing in that blog yet, but I think I will use it to put my *really* personal thoughts as I’d like to make this BearMythology blog more of a “lightly personal but informative blog.”

Here’s another sampling of one of his Bullgoons:

Beer, Gatorade, and _____.  Yes, please, may I please have all three… ^_^
